How Do You Start a Skateboard Brand in 2026 With a Right Manufacturer?
Share
Starting a skateboard brand in 2026 comes down to five things. You need a clear niche, a manufacturer you can trust, a focused first product line, a realistic budget and a simple launch plan. Get those right and everything else gets easier.
We have worked on the factory side of this since 2007. Our founders left a successful furniture business in India and moved to China to make pro-quality skateboards. Today Bubble Skatzz is the world’s first woman-owned skateboard manufacturer, and we have worked with more than 200 brands, from big names to first-time founders. This guide is the advice we give every new founder who contacts us.
A Quick Roadmap for How to Start a Skateboard Brand From Idea to Launch
Most successful skate brands follow the same seven steps.
-
Pick your niche. Street, cruiser, surf skate or kids’ boards. A narrow focus makes your marketing sharper.
-
Build your identity. Settle on your name, logo, graphic style and the story behind the brand.
-
Choose a manufacturer. Check materials, quality control, minimum orders and how well they communicate.
-
Select shapes and specs. Start with two or three proven sizes instead of ten.
-
Order samples. Ride them, test them and photograph them.
-
Set your pricing. Work out your cost per board, then add shipping, duties and your margin.
-
Launch and listen. Sell through your own site and local shops, then reorder what sells.
Most founders spend too much time on step two and too little on step three. A great graphic on a weak deck won’t bring riders back. A reliable factory takes care of quality so you can focus on the brand.
How to Pick a Skateboard Manufacturer You Can Grow With
A good skateboard manufacturer should show you its process, not just its prices. Here is what to ask about, and how we answer each point.
-
Materials. Our decks are pressed from 7 layers of premium Canadian maple sourced from FSC-certified forests.
-
Process. Every board goes through veneer cutting, dyeing, drying, pressing, hole drilling, CNC shaping, sanding, buffing, varnishing and printing. You can see each stage on our production page.
-
Pressing. Each deck spends 45 minutes or more in a single mold, which gives consistent pop from board to board.
-
Quality checks. Boards are inspected at the wood stage, during lamination, after CNC shaping and again at final inspection. Quality certificates are available on request.
-
Communication. Our English-speaking team is available 7 days a week, and every client gets a dedicated account manager.
You are also welcome to visit in person. Factory tours run on weekdays between 10 AM and 3 PM, and we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice.
Should You Launch With Blank Skateboard Decks or Custom Skateboard Decks?
Blank skateboard decks are the faster, lower-risk way to start. Custom skateboard decks give you a shape and look that no one else has. Many brands start with blanks, then move to custom work once sales prove the demand.
Our standard shape range already covers a lot of ground. The HMX mini molds run from 6.75" x 29" up to 7.875" x 30", which suits younger riders and smaller setups. The R series runs from 7.375" x 31" up to 9.0" x 32.5", from narrow street boards to wide decks for bigger riders. Every shape lists its width, length and wheelbase, so you can compare specs before ordering.
If none of these fit your idea, our CNC machines can cut almost any shape. We can work from your existing template or design a new one with you from scratch. Tooling fees may apply for completely new shapes, so ask about them in your quote.
For graphics, we offer screen printing, heat transfer and digital printing. You can send your own artwork, or we can connect you with designers from our network.
Building a Full Line With Private Label Skateboards and Components
Decks get you started. A full line of private label skateboards and parts is what turns a deck company into a real brand. Riders want complete setups, and shops prefer to buy more from fewer suppliers.
Here is what we can produce under your name.
-
Complete skateboards with your own griptape, trucks, wheels, bearings and packaging
-
Wheels in multiple shapes, sizes and hardness levels, with Pantone color matching and custom molds
-
Gravity-cast trucks, branded or unbranded, with the option of a custom mold
-
Griptape with full print, glow-in-the-dark, die-cut and custom sizing options
-
Surf skates and cruisers, including engineered veneer finishes
-
Accessories like bearings, hardware kits, riser pads, bushings, T-tools and stickers
-
Safety gear including helmets, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards
Keeping everything with one factory gives you one contact, one shipment and a consistent look across your range. You can also browse our branded goods catalogue for ideas.
